Philippians 2:12-13:
Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
God works in us to will and to act according to His good pleasure, even as we will and act according to our own good pleasure. (Not when we stop acting selfishly.) If God has not made you—and does not continue to make you—aware of latter, I can assure you that you are not experiencing the former.
Put another way, one way you know that God is working in you to will and to act according to His good pleasure is through an increasing awareness that you are willing and acting according to your own good pleasure.
Said yet another way, grace and righteousness abound where sin and unrighteousness abound. The clearest example of this is the cross of Christ, where the expression of our self-righteousness and sin resulted in the reconciliation of ALL humanity to God.
God is not waiting for you to clean up your act so He can bless you. He's telling you that you are blessed because of Him, not because of you.
