I think we can all agree that if the nature of God and the Holy Spirit fully animated our personal experience and expression, our experience of God and life would be much better than it currently is. With that being the case, it becomes critical to ask: what causes—or limits—the impact that the Holy Spirit has on our personal experience?
Are there aspects of our lives that we need to change for His ministry to increase in scope and impact? Do we need to do a little more of one thing and a little less of another? According to the Christian/Catholic orthodoxy of our day, the answer is yes. According to the New Testament, the answer is no.
According to the good news of Christ, the degree to which anyone—believer or unbeliever alike—experiences the ministry of the Spirit is up to God, not them.
Our experience of His ministry, grace, and promise shape our personal expression; our personal expression does not determine whether we experience His ministry, grace, and promise.
Today’s Christian/Catholic orthodoxy is leading you astray when it says that the degree to which you experience God depends on you.
